When to bring in StudioFG

Your team works with Rhino3D or Grasshopper, and there is a deadline, a tricky piece of geometry or a task that costs hours of manual work every week. Or you want to start using Grasshopper, but nobody on the team builds the definitions. StudioFG steps in: as extra hands on your project, as the builder of scripts and integrations, or as a second opinion on a model that has stalled.

We work for architecture practices, structural engineers and contractors, yacht builders and sailmakers, and for product designers and manufacturers whose products come in ever different sizes.

Project support: extra Rhino and Grasshopper capacity

For the duration of a project we work as part of your team, remotely or on site. We take on the parametric part of the work and hand it over so your team can carry on without us. Also for a single day, for example to unblock a stalled model or to set up a workflow.

Scripts, plug-ins and integrations built for you

Repetitive work belongs in a script. We build Grasshopper definitions, Python and C# scripts and Rhino plug-ins (RhinoCommon) that do exactly what your process needs, and connect Rhino to the software around it: Tekla Structures, Excel, an ERP system or a web shop. Legacy RhinoScript or VBScript code is taken over and, where needed, ported to Python or C#.

A script only pays off when the team uses it. That is why every script comes with a short explanation and, if you want, an instruction session for the people who will work with it.

Examples of earlier work: automatic cut lines for boat covers, the Grasshopper–Tekla integration for structural engineers and parametric models for product configurators.

Workflow scan and second opinion

Not sure whether your model is set up well, or does Grasshopper grind to a halt at larger numbers? Send us the file. Within two working days you get a short written assessment: what is sound, where the bottlenecks are and the fastest way forward. The scan is free of obligation; after that you decide whether to bring us in.

Project support is charged by the day or by the hour; scripts and integrations are preferably done for a fixed price, so you know the cost up front.

Frequently asked questions

What does a Grasshopper expert cost?

It depends on the form. Project support is charged by the day or by the hour; a well-defined script or integration is done for a fixed price that depends on its size. After a short intake you get an estimate, with no obligation.

Do you work remotely or on site?

Both. Most scripts and integrations are built remotely, with video calls and shared files; we work in English and Dutch from the Netherlands (CET). For project support in a team we also come on site, in the Netherlands and Belgium or anywhere else: we work worldwide.

Can you take over or fix an existing script?

Yes. We read into the existing definition or code, document what is in it and make it faster, more robust or ready for a new Rhino version. Legacy RhinoScript or VBScript code is ported to Python or C#.

RhinoScript, Python or C#: what is the difference?

RhinoScript is Rhino’s older scripting language, based on VBScript. Python is today’s standard for scripts in Rhino and Grasshopper; C# with RhinoCommon is what we use for plug-ins and computation-heavy work. We pick the language that fits your team and your existing code.

Can I hire you for just one day?

Yes. One day is often enough to unblock a stalled model, set up a workflow or get a team going. You pay the day rate, with no further commitment.

What is the difference with a training?
